The lack of split-view and slide-over makes the iPad more MacOS. [which i love]. Plus There is the additional window options that give you split-view and slide over.
Hi there. You state..Plus there is the additional windows options that give you split-view and slide over.
I have an iPad air 4 and have tried to get solid view on my iPad but cannot get it to work in ios26 at all you can you please give the exact steps you use to be able to enable split view.
I would really appreciate a step by step note.
I use split screen extensively

Does this help
I’m using Windowed Apps
Middle selection

Yeah, i use clam (closed) mostly in my work office, attached to windows keyboard and mouse, its working very well today on 1st day

Clamshell mode does not work for me. (M1 12.9)

It’s working for me on my iPad Pro M4

Clamshell like your iPad is closed, its screen is off, and you're driving an external display?

I was trying this the other day in the office with my studio display and M4 iPad Pro. The second I closed the iPad (Magic Keyboard) or hit the sleep/wake button to turn off its display the studio display also went off. I was using ‘Windowed Apps’ for multitasking.

Anyway, hope its a bug and its something they’re actually working to enable.

There definitely appears to be some discrepancies between clamshell mode on iPadOS 28.

If someone who does have it working, would it be possible to share a a quick video? The screenshots are nice, but don’t really indicate

(Also, auto lock should be active. We do know that if the auto-lock is set to never close the lid, it will work).

It’s nice to be able to put windows in various places, but slide over just kept things from looking messy like it is with the new design.

Thanks for responding. That is what I have also used but still can't open two sides at the same time. Obviously I am not doing something right.
I’m using it mostly with external display, Windowed Apps, I previously used stage manager and that still has an “add another window “

And I can’t seem to find that option in the windowed app

Yeah, my iPad is actually hiding behind my work laptop, its in a stand, locked and closed
Sorry but I don’t believe this. Show us a screenshot with your home screen on an external monitors if true we’ll see all your apps and widgets there.

This means your iPad display will be on all the time, even with the cover closed.
What people mean with clamshell mode is that the device's screen can be off while connected to an external monitor.

How do you use the Windowing feature? I can't find any tips in Settings (and the animation isn't helping) I used Split Screen to have my text messages next to my YouTube for convenience and don't know how to toggle windowing mode to work around it missing. Is there a gesture or something? Also, what does that little handle in the lower right corner do?
