I was under the impression that my iPhone needed to be connected to power to WIFI sync with iOS 5 but I have been able to SYNC wirelessly with the phone running on battery power. I have done it 4 times so far. I am very happy to see this.

Was this a misunderstanding that I had before or is this a surprise?

    Thanks

    You misunderstood I think.

You can sync manually as long as you are on the same wireless network.

However when you plug power into your device, it will automatically sync after a certain amount of time. It's great, I slam my devices into their docks, at night, and by the morning they are all synced and updated!

I do kind of wish they checked for new stuff every couple of hours when plugged in though. I have some podcasts that update over night, and sometimes they download after I have synced, so I have to do it again in the morning.

It's possible they changed it. Overall, it won't let you update over-the-air unless you've got at least 50% battery life.

My wifi sync was working okay w/ my iphone until this morning. Just couldn't find the Mac Mini for some reason. Odd.
