No New email sound in Mail

Anyone else encountered this ? I won't hear the new mail sound effect at all. Until I send an email, and then it will play just before the whooosh, like it was stuck in a backlog.

Does this happen to anyone else? I've set up a rule telling it to play the sound but it hasn't helped.

No "new mail" sound on 10.11.1, which version of El Cap are you running under?

10.11.1, do you know if this has been fixed in .2?

Nope, haven't tried .2 (only so many hours in a day!) and haven't seen any feedback on this issue from someone who has.

Try reselecting the sound in your Mail preferences.

This happened to me in an earlier major OS upgrade, can't remember which one. I've tried all the fixes and kludge-arounds I found that time and this time, and nothing works. No problems in Mavericks, no problems in Yosemite, then along comes El Capitan and "bam" - no new mail sound. This is on a 2012 MBA.
