No "new mail sound". (Other Mail sounds work)

Ever since getting my new MB I haven't been able to get the "new mail sound" to work in Mail.

- It plays when selected in preferences but not when a new message actually arrives
- Other Mail sounds work fine, (sending mail/sound when no new mail etc)

The sound on the laptop works normally for all other apps. I've loaded up GarageBand, (a fix I read about somewhere,) numerous times but no change and have of course had numerous restarts in the time i've owned the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Which operating system (and therefore version of Mail) do you have? have you tried changing the New Mail sound to something else?

Tried using other sounds but no luck.

I have exactly the same problem as timmyb on my MB... all Mail sounds working fine except 'New Mail'. Problem started after a clean install of 10.5.1.

Let's hope that it's on the increasingly long fix-it list in 10.5.2.

Yup same problem here on my Core duo 17" iMac 10.5.1
