I recently switched to the Apple mobile world. I like most things, but imo Google Mail, especially the App on phones is better (I use 4 gmail Accounts in daily usage). At least better for me.
So I removed the Mail App from my home screen, and shut off notifications and didnt use it last month at all.
Yesterday I got another Email Accoun from my work, which is from a different host, and therefore I prefer to run it not with Google (I could set it up to show under a Google account, but I prefer to see emails seperated from Google App)
I set up the IMAP/SMTP Account in the Account -> Mail settings, and I also switched notifications again on, and also for this specific Email account.
But still, I get no notifications when Email come into this inbox. I have to manually open the Mail App and refresh to see Emails. How can this be? All notifications are on....

Go to Settings>Mail>Accounts and then look at the bottom of the screen where it says "Fetch New Data." Click on that and see what each of your mail accounts is set to. Fetch or Push. Scroll all the say down on this page and you can see what fetch is set to. It may be on manual. You can change this to your liking.

Be aware that googlel will not allow Gmail accounts to push using any email client other than their own Gmail, so there you may not see an option for Push if you are using Gmail accounts.

BTW, if you download and use Gmail instead of the iphone's mail app you CAN have push email notifications.

Thanks for your comment.
All my accounts are on Fetch except for iCloud, which is on Push. Below the Fetch settings are set for „Automatically“
Seems thats not the issue... Any other idea? I just dont get any notification on my notification center like my google mails
Its like something is blocking it. I send a test Email to it and wait some minutes. Nothing... even when I long click on the Mail App button it says ‚No unread Messages‘ which is just a lie because when I then open the App the new Mail is already in the unbox, but unread. Very strange... I dont use any 3rd App blockers or whatsoever

Try putting an email account to fetch after 15 minutes. Send yourself an email to that account and see if it does notify you after 15 minutes.
Also check your notification settings for Mail and make sure you have it set to give you notifications where you want them for each account (lock screen, notifciation center, banners) and make sure you do not have a silent sound chosen and that badges is turned on. This would be in Settings>Notifications>Mail and then check each account.

It seems to work when I put fetch not to automatic but 15min! This means also my Gmail accounts are now on these rate of refreshment but 15min is pretty ok !!

Yeah, I didn't really like the idea of 15 minutes at first but I figured, if I am waiting for something urgent I can always go into mail and get whatever mail I may have immediately. 15 minutes really isn't bad otherwise.

Remember, the more time it takes to fetch, the better it is for your battery.

So Google is applying to this 15 as well? When it was on automatically, it was instant!?

If you use the Gmail email app AND a gmail mail account it will PUSH. You do not have to wait 15 minutes. If you use the Apple Mail app with a gmail account it will NOT push. From what I understand, Gmail is the only mail app that will PUSH gmail account emails.

I'm using the Apple email app. I decided that waiting the 15 min really is no big deal. I can always force an email to come through just by going into the app if I am awaiting something with any importance that I already know is coming. Plus I appreciate that it's better for the battery.

Thanks jay! You helped me really out in this issue!!!
Btw: I have a new Macbook. Do you recommend adding Google Accounts to the native Apple Mail App? I dont like Apple Mail on my iPhone (interface as well as some options look weird for me) but maybe on Mac its less an issue

In my opinion, if you don't like Apple Mail on your phone then you'll like it even less on your Mac. There are a few threads in the Mac Apps section of the forum that discuss other options. Currently, I'm using Thunderbird with my Gmail accounts and am very happy with it.

Interesting, can you maybe share the link to this discussion cant find it.
From the past I just know that I dont like Outlook at all, but normally Mozilla provides very stable programs. Will try also Thunderbird

I depend heavily on getting my email pushed as a freelancer picking off jobs asap. Based on my experince, iphone (ipad) stock mail app is useless. Even if you put it on fetch, your emails will get delayed even if you use icloud mail account. It is mystifying why Apple is so bad with managing mails. If you want to get real time emails, you need to use either the gmail app or other 3rd party app. Gmail seems glitchy and lack notification sounds. As of now, I use Outlook email app which allows you to put up gmail accounts. It used to be about one second slower than the gmail app itself, so practically there is no difference and the UI is better.

So you use Outlook on your iPhone and Mac or just Mac?

I use iphone and iPad. Google stopped allowing push to the iOS stock mail unless you buy Google’s paid plan, never tried it. I depend on picking my job and every second is critical and iOS Mail simply won’t cut it for that purpose.

Here's a recent thread.
I don’t have a link because I know this for a fact. You can try yourself. I tried few other apps like Spark numerous times for its diverse notification sounds, but they are always few seconds behind. Give it a try. Outlook is often chosen as #1 mail app for iOS. What people don’t really know is how MS has caught up with Google on many fronts. They are not the old MS. Give it a try if you haven’t used it for a long time. Even I was surprised. Mail app is my lifeline and I am faster to respond on emails than many other messenger apps. The outlook mail is an app that MS paid around a billion dollar while acquiring an app which was previously ranked #1 in the category.

To add, I switched over to Outlook just 3 months ago and still use it along with Gmail, but I’ve finally succeded in spending enough time to get myself “used to” the new UI, which is a pain because I‘ve been using gmail for over 10 years after migrating to it from hotmail for the sort features. As my life depends on it, I still have gmail app installed on one of my iOS devices, but now I practically respond and review emails on the outlook 90% of the. time. Gmail has been stagnant for years and another thing is that they don’t cater to Apple products (not just emails) like MS does. I am yet to ditch gmail on the web but depend notifications on the outlook app.

I ONLY use google mail accounts. On my iphone and both my Macs. BTW, the native mail apps on both the iMac and the Macbook Pro show the emails within seconds after they are sent (depending on where they are coming from of course). I see no waiting 15 minutes or longer on the computers. Only on the iphone.
If you're talking about adding a Gmail app client to your Mac, I have never done this so I can't comment. I'm happy with the native Apple mail apps on the computers. Maybe you just need to get used to it.

Well my life, or better said work doesnt depend on getting mails immediately. Even 2-3min are withing range....
so paying for outlook is not worth for me. I almost installed Sparks before I saw a ton of reddit and other forums speaking about huge privacy issues... So since I need something which is stable working also on a Windows Pc I decided for good old Thunderbird for my Mac and on iOS I try the combination Native Mail App with one account connected and 4 other Gmail account in Gmail App
