I appear to have no light on my new MBP. It's the 2012 regular 15", did they remove it on these?

It's almost impossible to see it when it isn't lit up, but I also don't see it in any of the photos or tech specs on Apple's site for the non-retina Macbook Pro.

I think I can see the shaded area where the light should be indicating the laser cut holes are there but even when on there is no light.

I guess I need to take a trip into the store to confirm?

It isn't supposed to be on when you're using the MBP, it only comes on as you close the lid and then pulses once it's in sleep mode.

If it's there it will be just to the left of the black IR receiver on the front.

My mistake but still weird. The light pulses once when you turn the MBP on but is not lit the whole time you are using it. It does pulse like normal when in sleep. I guess they didn't want it on all the time? That threw me.

OK, just a departure from the 2011 model I guess?? On that the light is on solid when the machine is on, pulses in sleep and is off when off (just like any other PC).

I can't say for sure about the 2011 models, but my 2008 model does not keep the light on when using it, only when entering or leaving sleep mode, and pulsing while in sleep mode. (Maybe also on boot up, not sure about that).

I was just momentarily worried there was a cable unplugged somewhere but as the light does work it must be working as intended.

Thank you all.

my 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2011 Macbook Pro models do not do that. They do NOT stay on when the machine is operating... and my 2012 rMBP doesn't even have a light.

SOLVED: The light stays on solid when the machine is on and in clamshell mode.

My 2011 MBP light went out when I took it out of clamshell and put it somewhere else without an external monitor. The 2012 light went on when I put it in clamshell mode on my desk.

This light is actually a very smart indicator of whats going on.
