I'm desperate!!! I have an iBook G4 running 10.4 that does not recognize the internal speakers or headphones. When I click on iTunes it not only does NOT make sound, it doesn't even attempt to play. I tried restarting while holding option-command-p-r but the problem continued. I did a permissions check in disk utility, but everything checked out...

In my system preferences/sound preferences it says "no output devices found" under the system profiler it says "no built-in audio."

I WOULD create a new user to see if it worked under a new user, but, I picked up this cleaned-out iBook used, and I don't have the Re-install disks. I bought this specifically to hold my music/tv shows/podcasts!!! Should I just buy a new OS and start over? Thanks SO MUCH for everything!

I had this same problem...for about 8 hours. I just decided to re-boot and this mad my PB recognize the speakers again. I think other people also have been booting in safe mode, then restarting again. If no luck, search around in the forums. Other people have had this problem too.
