no photo stream on my mac

i don't see the option to turn on the photo stream in my mac..i logged on to my icloud account yet see no option...nor in the pref either...help anyone?

Did you update to the latest iPhoto? The area to turn it on is under iPhoto pref.

but can the photo stream work without iphoto?

You need the latest version. I think it's 9.1 I'm not sure. No photo stream won't work. Your best bet is to ask in the os x section of macrumors.

You need iPhoto '11.
