So we didn't get preview/text edit after all. That's too bad...
Another new thread that should be just a post in a topic. Cool.
Another waste of bandwidth. Cool.
I didn't expect either of them to actually appear. Especially because the mockups that were supposed to be passed off as proof uses non-flat Mavericks icons. Apple no longer designs icons like that.
Rich text editing should be in the Notes app, so that's more or less what Text Edit would have provided.
Pretty sure it was rumored that they might be delayed. It's not something devs need to be aware of so there's no rush.
If they were real they were obviously temporary.
TextEdit functionality will be rolled into notes. Preview looks like it might end up being a way to browse icloud drive.
Who knows, it may have been delayed. Mark Gurman said Apple was pulling engineers from iOS 8 to work on OS X 10.10 and that many features may be pushed back to 8.1.
There is no need to have them anymore because of the new iCloud Drive and Document Picker. That was the original rationale behind having those two apps, to access the iCloud silos of both TextEdit and Preview
There is rich text support in the notes app and there is a tips app.
Gurman seems to pretty defensive about this particular rumor cycle but I agree with him that this functionality seems to be merged into existing apps rather than new ones
