Another way to get more money from consumers... they made an iPad mini without retina display but wait for the next ipad mini 2.... yes.. with retina display. That's when people will get crazy selling their ipad minis to get the all new and revolutionary ipad mini 2 with amazing retina display. Apple has the best marketing department in the world

It must be close to retina, right? It has the same amount of pixels as the iPad 2 and its a smaller screen.
It is no where close to retina. It's 163 ppi compared to 216 on the Kindle Fire HD or Nexus 7. iPad 2 was around 130 ppi.. iPad 3 is 264?

Not the same...

iPad mini - 1024-by-768 resolution at 163 pixels per inch (ppi)

Retina Display (iPad 3) - 2048-by-1536 resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi)

Retina is a made up term. That resolution looks pretty damn decent.
completely disagree. the resolution is ****** compared to even the competition, non-apple 7in tablets. the font will not be anywhere near as sharp and it will be noticeable. yes "retina" is a made up term but you can't say 163 ppi is good nowadays.

Not even 1 hour old and we're talking about the next one.
We are not talking about the next one... we are talking about this one. No retina display at the moment. What we are saying is how Apple works. They launch this ipad mini without retina display and later on they will just add retina display (something thay could do now with the new ipad mini) and will get more money from their customers.

Yeah, this is typical Apple BS. No retina display, just means they're waiting for the next one.

At only $70 less than the one with retina display, I don't see why anyone would bother. It's not the small form factor of the 7" tablets on the market, and the screen sucks. I've owned 7" tablets with 1024x768 resolution, and you can see pixels. After being used to looking at displays where you can't see pixels (iPhone 4/4S for example), it's just not something I want to look at.

Apple impresses me less and less which every new product announcement, including the iPhone 5.
