Wow, sorry to hear that. Our Apple Store definitely doesn't handle things like that. They will fix it right there one way or another whether it takes replacing the phone or sending you to AT&T to get the SIM replaced. Even if its sending you to AT&T and it doesn't fix it and you need to come back, they will take care of you. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow. Good luck getting your issue fixed.

Well I really don't think they had a choice. They are swamped. They had a rep and a cop at the door and the rep asked what you were there for.....When I told him service for my iphone it was basically "no soup for you"...lol,

There was a line waiting to come in the store to buy iphones and the store was packed with shoppers and people needing service. I just figured leaving it would be my best option. They told me I couldn't get an appt. till Tuesday anyway. They only had 3 idiots working..oops Jeanieusis.....

That is probably the biggest problem I saw. How could they only have 3 technical people working on a rollout weekend?

Just wanted everyone to know that I recieved my replacement iphone and so far my coverage is holding at 3 bars and only dropping to 2 bars.

Before the spot that I am in it would have stayed at no service and periodically switched to 3 bars to no bars to no service.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that this stays like this for good.

Good to hear! I just got my SIM replaced so we will see how that goes....

Going to pickup my replacement phone. They didn't even test my old one. I called in and they told me to come in and pick up a new one.....hhhmmmm

No difference with replacement SIM... out $25, but a worthwhile test.
Still 3 bars to 2 bars to 1 bar to 'Searching'. Then back to 3... hover at 2... etc. All in the space of 5 minutes or so. At home. At work it's a consistent 2-3 bars.
With my RAZR (w/ AT&T) I was at full bars everywhere.

I have been all over town today with the replacement iphone and everything thing seems fine. Getting the same reception that I got with my blackberry, and some places seem a little better.

Must have been something wrong with the phone. Just glad to finally see what all the iphone hype is about.

Where did you order your replacement from, and whom did you ask for a replacement from? My nearest Apple Store is 60 miles away, but I have 3 AT&T stores within 5 miles.

Are you saying they charged you for the replacement SIM? If they suspected something was wrong with your SIM it shouldn't have cost you anything. At least that has always been my experience with the AT&T stores I've dealt with.

exact same problem last night in Sacramento, CA.

3G-S went from 3g => No service; turned of 3G, got Edge, worked okay. Did full restore, still had problems. After restore, the phone had a "WAITING FOR ACTIVATION" message. when I turned off 3G - it became "ACTIVATED"...

Interestingly, my wife's 3G (which was originally my phone) also had the same problem. No 3G service, edge fine when 3G disabled.

Eventually, 2 hours later, everything was back to normal.

This must be AT&T's fault.. some combo of network issues, SIM activation issues...

Yep, they charged my $25 for the SIM. I explained the problem that I was experiencing, and that the SIM swap was noted as a potential fix. After she said it would be $25 and that they couldn't install it in the store, I asked if it was covered under some sort of warranty because the phone was only 3 days old. She said no, it was not.

Ben C.

I called apple direct and told them about the problem. And after troubleshooting the iphone with no results, they told me they would overnight a new iphone.

That was on Saturday morning, and I recieved the new iphone this morning.

Thanks - I'll give that a shot this week!
Did they give you a 'ready to print' return label? Do you mail the phone back to them or drop it off at a store?

Ben C.

Box came with a return label on it, even had tape in the box to retape it.

Just go to fedex and give it to them, but make sure you get a reciept to show proof that you shipped it.

Excellent - sounds effortless (like Zappos shoes!).
Thanks again!

Wow, $25 for a replacement SIM that might be defective?! I walked into AT&T, told the guy my problem, told him my troubleshooting, he said "Wow, guess you already did my job for me" and he replaced my SIM free of charge. Never heard of a charge for a replacement SIM for a defective one.

First time for everything. :p

I went to the Apple store and it took a couple of hours but I received a replacement phone. It was a major pain since I bought it online. After 2 trips and a promised replacement they had no way to swap out the phone. Someone finally figured out how to do it. Here is the kicker. I wanted the new sim that came with the new phone and they just would not give it to me. They said I would have to go to ATT for a new sim and that it wouldn't cost.

Bottom line is I am home with the phone and having the same problem. Not I guess I have to go to the ATT store for a sim. I will not be paying for one though. They can have this phone back and I will stick with Verizon for a while.

I don't Know, I took mine back and cancel my contract to Best Buy.

Starting to think it was not activated correctly or bad sim card?? What do you guys think?
