Hi guys,

I very rarely have the issue that when I turn the Apple TV 4K on from sleep I don’t get a picture. I just get displayed the AVR home screen instead of the Apple TV signal. To fix it I have to unplug it and plug it back in to force a restart. Anyone else also having this bug sometimes?

What is your setup - components, cabeling?

I have a different setup (Apple TV > Oppo audio to receiver, Oppo video to tv), but also have the problem where the Apple TV is not seen. The issue is the HCDP handshake between the Apple TV and my Oppo. For some reason it fails, and I have to continually reset the Oppo. Don't have to power it off, just go to the home menu, then switch from the home menu to the "HDMI in back" setting.

In your case it may be the Apple TV - AVR handshake. Rather than unplugging the AppleTV, I would see if power cycling the AVR helps. Maybe changing the AVR to a different input, then back to the Apple TV will force a new handshake.

Thanks for your reply. My setup is Apple TV 4K —> HDMI to Yamaha RX-A880 —> HDMI to TV.

I tried
- switching to another input and back
- unplugging and reconnecting the HDMI cable from the Apple TV to the AVR
- restarting the AVR
but these steps didn’t help.

I will try to unplug the AVR the next time.

No need to unplug, after you’ve woken it try pressing the menu button on the remote as that should should then spring it into life when it activates the screensaver.

Normally you should power on in reverse order with few seconds pause between the HDMI device chain you are powering on your home theater setup.

Display first, then AVR, then Apple TV 4K. The reason for this is that the source needs to negotiate with the chain to be able to do 4K HDR to TV. The AVR is considered a HDMI repeater.

If you has a stuck HDMI state you might have to power off everything and unplug it from AC before reconnecting your device path before a reverse order power up.

Thank for the detailed explanation :)
