Plugged in earphones to my IPad mini but the music continues to play thru the IPad's speakers and not thru the earphones. I unplugged and tried it several times. It worked fine last week, but now this problem has occurred. Is their a setting I need to check?

No, there aren't any settings to tell the iPad to go through the headphones or the speakers. If headphones are plugged in, even the AirPlay settings only give the option of headphones or another AirPlay enabled speaker.

Try plugging them in and double-tapping the Home button. Once you see the multitasking tray, swipe from left to right and hit the AirPlay button. It looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing towards it. Once you hit it, it should state either 'Headphones' or 'iPad'. If your headphones are plugged in and it says 'iPad', your iPad isn't recognizing that headphones are plugged in.

First, make sure they are all the way plugged in and second, try a second pair if you have some to test.

Thank you for the reply. I checked the air play icon. It is selected to earphones. Then I tried 2 more sets of earphones but no help. It still only plays thru speakers on IPad.

Gosh, have you tried this? After plugging in the headphones, you have to use the volume button to bring the sound back up to the desired level. When you press the volume button, it will say “headphones” on the display to let you know that you are adjusting the sound for the headphones only. The speaker volume retains its previous setting (maximum volume).

If all else fails, you may bring it by an Apple Store and see what they think.

Same problem, no sound from earphones

Any other ideas?Anyone? It was a no-brainier plugging in the phones and listening, then, poof, one day it stopped working that way. So aggravating, along with other little quirks that suddenly appear now and then. Are they just trying to get us into the store again?

the same thing just happend to me on my iphone 4s i did a hard reset by holding the"home" button and the on/off button until it reset, headphones now work, maybe try that.

Yes, it worked! Thank You so very much!
[doublepost=1466304457][/doublepost]Just turned up the volume, I guess this is a feature to prevent blasting of sound from the newly-plugged in earphones. However, not all the time does the volume have to be reset. This hasn't happened for me in a long time.

[doublepost=1495687379][/doublepost]Thank you so much. I bought a bunch of irig gear for my guitar and ipad. After about a week it quit working. I narrowed it down to the headphone jack. I tried several things for a couple hours and this, your suggestion worked. Thank you so much. I was so frustrated and thought I was out of sever hundred dollars in guitar gear. You're the best.
