I have a Mini Display to HDMI adapter and HDMI chord. I connected them and plugged it in the TV, but all I got was video, but no sound. I went to the audio settings and tried everything, still nothing. What do I do?

(I have mavericks. My MacBook is 2 years old)

Check System Preferences > Sound > Output or OPTION/Alt click the sound/volume icon in the Menu Bar and tell us, what is listed and checked as Output Device.

You'll have either figure out which model it is or try another cable. I have a Belkin that says audio in the spec sheet. Plenty of cheap ones don't support audio.

^ This. Will tell us if HDMI audio out is possible with your adapter and if you have it selected.

Leave the MacBook Pro turned on and connected to your TV. Connect a USB keyboard to it. Close the lid so the computer sleeps. Press a button the USB keyboard to wake it up but do not open the lid. The picture should return to your TV, and see if your audio is now working.
