No sound with my .avi files

I just downloaded a couuple .avi movies and niether have any sound when I play them. I've used both quicktime and DivX to play them, but no luck. I figure I need to find another coded but don't know which one.

Ideas?

Perian should work for you. It will allow QuickTime to properly play avi files and other formats.

also got dvix and xvid.

Try removing all of that and just installing Perian. Then restart. Perian includes all those codecs I believe and should be able to play all .avi files.
