Hi,
I installed Lion on my MBP and everything was working fine but suddenly I have no sound :

- when I adjust the volume I hear no "plop"
- movie in VLC no sound
- iTunes no sound
- when I select a sound in the Preferences/Sound/Sounds Effect I can hear it

I tried resting the SMC and PRAM but no success :(

Me too!

I just noticed today also. No chime on power up. Mute or volume buttons just show the mute screen, volume control is dimmed. Nice!

no help for me. That option is dimmed. I have tried everything even on apple's forum (someone said try safe mode) Tried that, got sound, but then it went away. It is now intermittent. And now I have the anomaly OF having sound but the volume control is dimmed and non-functional. This is truly bizarre. Fortunately my mbp is my travel and 'tv/kitchen' machine so it's not THAT important yet. But I feel I may go back to Leopard mainly due to time machine and my Qnap nas.
