I think it's a valid comparison.

How is it a "valid" comparison by any rational standard? Fragmentation implies incompatibilities between devices, and in the case of Android, two versions of the exact same handset may have completely different setups and compatibility due to carrier control over OS updates. USB-C doesn't make the 12" MBP incompatible with any existing Mac accessories, you just would need an adapter to connect them. That's not fragmentation at all.

Why aren't you just using wireless devices for this dude? HDMI out on an iPad has always been a horrible solution, who wants an iPad hanging from the TV with its cable on view? Get one of the main HDMI streaming sticks and air play to your TV - that way you only have to carry the tiny HDMI stick in your bag and not a huge adapter and even more its compatible with your iPad, rMB and rMBP as they can all Airplay to it![/QUOTE]

No internet at my lake house ... Typical day is spent on a boat dawn till dusk, then a nice drink and a movie in the evening ... If only Apple TV supported a direct connection straight from iPad ...

The current lineup of announced USB-C devices only support USB 3.0 spec speeds - things we've had on MacBooks for 3 years now. So far, we're only getting adoption of a connector and people still continue to whine that the refreshed rMBPs don't have it. The point is that at this time, they really don't need it.

Incidentally, your Best Buy link lists a bunch of USB 2.0/3.0 flash drives utilizing an old-fashioned Type-A connector.
