I have a MiniDisplay Port to DVI converter, then a DVI to VGA converter. I hook them all up and go to Sys.Pref, open Displays, and mirror displays. Even when they aren't mirrored, the Mac will recognize the monitor, but the monitor won't display anything.

I've tried this on three monitors now and this has happened. The monitors detect the connection because they go into Standby (when nothing is displayed) when I connect them. I've tried it on an old box Dell monitor and an old Envision monitor and also a 17" flatscreen monitor. Nothing will work. But HDMI will, and I only have HDMI on one monitor that I don't have access to.

I've tried two DVI to VGA ports as well and both turn up the same results.

Help? The Dell is a E772c.

    Thanks.

Why not use a single adapter instead of chaining?

    Mini DisplayPort to VGA.
Also available at the Apple Stores.

If you want cheaper: MonoPrice Mini DisplayPort to VGA.

The reason it's not working right now is because Apple's adaptors only support DVI-D, which doesn't have the analog signal, thus it can't be adapted to VGA. You must use a direct adaptor.
