Why is there no video recording capabilities in the new iPhone OS 3.0. I thought that this was one of the new touted features available to ALL iPhone 3G.? In fact, there are so many people complaining right now of some of the missing features touted in the OS 3.0 upgrade that the Apple Discussions area is temporarily unaccessible.

People should pay attention - as Apple made it very clear that video was only available on the 3G S.

Video recording requires hardware that is only part of the 3GS

Just another selling point for the 3G S. i disagree but thats what apple decided to do. its obviously possible on the older ones via jail break. so NO new hardware is needed.

i hope someday apple will invent something that will make ppl smarter...

Thought that was obvious

Evidently not. It's like MMS on the first gen also. It's possible but Apple wants you to upgrade. That's why they're such a profitable business. If you're always upgrading they're always making money and coming up with "the next best thing".

There is no software available via jailbreak that allows the 3g to record full vga video at 30fps. The hardware isn't there.

^ Exactly. The video via jailbreak is between 7-15fps (15 if you're lucky). People would complain that the video quality was **** on the 3G if they allowed it via 3.0. It's a hardware limitation which is why you need the 3G S.

Technically there is no reason the 3G can't do Video, Indeed if you jailbreak you can use cycorder. But Apple wan't you to buy the new 3GS so they've only made it available for that.

Makes me angry that Apple behave in this way, holding back workable software features. Surely this is not the way technology is meant to be. I always thought that it should be maxed out.

video on 2g/3g iphone is awful. take a look at the quality of the 3gs video on engadget, its fantastic. the hardware on the 3g isnt capable of that AT ALL

So many people crying and complaining... I mean seriously read the features before you buy something... the fact that the apple discussions are going haywire with this issue makes me feel bad for humanity as a whole.

Dumb people shouldn't be allowed to use the Internet.

If they allowed video recording and you got 15fps you'd complain about that. Either way you'll complain.

Video is obviously possible with existing hardware even at limited FPS.

3G S is a serious failure if it is so short on new features, Apple had to pretend video recording is strictly hardware related.

People just don't !@#$ing read anymore.

My wife asserts that 90% of humans are stupid. Many of these threads prove it.
