So let me get this straight. You have a 200 text message limit then you get charged for each incoming and outgoing text message beyond that.

There's no way to restrict calls on the iPhone????? Are you kidding me??!!!

So all a crazy deranged ex has to do to run your phone bill up is send you 1000 text messages and there's no way to stop him/her???!

You make an interesting point... Are you charged for texts received. I always thought that if you had a text package, you could receive unlimited, and could send whatever amount is in your package. I am on sprint right now and that's how they work. I will be switching over to att for the 3g iphone, so I too am curious for an answer to your question.

I've looked under every menu and sub menu there is and there is no option to restrict calls in any way. And as far as I know AT&T does not offer now and won't be offering an unlimited text option on any monthly plan.

And yeah Sprint is King when it comes to their unlimited package -- you get unlimited EVERYTHING.

Far as I'm concerned if this is true that you cannot restrict calls in any way, this info needs to be shared with the public IMMEDIATELY so they can make an informed buying decision.

att does offer an unlimited texting plan, to add to whatever plan you like... I believe it is 20 bucks. It is on the website. My curiosity is if it counts against your text messages (say...200) if you receive texts. I hope someone other than the two of us, joins this thread.

Wow. So it's true then. There is no way to restrict calls on the iPhone. This is so fundamental a feature for a phone. And I'm fairly confident that incoming text msgs count against your total although I haven't really bothered to investigate. But couldn't a restrict call feature be added via a simple software update?? One has to wonder what they were thinking at Apple to omit such an obvious necessity -- along with several others.

There is a way to block unwanted txt messages. Go to the site below and register. They give you options to block certain sources or domains. I was getting spam txt which was counted against my usage and you can block all txt messages that originate from a computer, not a cell phone. Apparently all the spam txt is computer generated. It wasn't obvious that you can use this site to block incoming phone numbers but call AT&T and they'll help.

    yeah...

    Annoying, sure.

What's wrong with the $20/month for unlimited? It would seem to solve all your problems and you'd never have to worry about overages again.

Yeah, personally I like iBlacklist, but you may have to jailbreak your phone. There are some ways to get cracks for these apps that I probably can't mention here, go check google.

some people dont want to pay 20 bucks a month for unlimited texting maybe

the op has a valid point. what if you are social and receive many texts from people yet you dont want the service. why should "you" get penalized?

    where is it?

Old thread. Hope someone can help. How do you do a search within installer. I'm looking for iblacklist once I open installer but I can't find it listed.
When trying to add a new app, how the heck do you do it within installer or cydia?

I hope someone can update us. Thanks!!

    Aloha everyone,

AT&T offers a service designed for those of us who, like me, do not have texting as part of our iPhone 3G plan. This service blocks all texts and costs only $5.00/month.

Of course, if you wish to receive 200 texts/month, the cost is only $5.00/month. It's kind of counter-intuitive to offer a service to block texts at the same price point as the texts themselves.

I'm just going to stick with no texting on my plan.
