Hello,

The Good Morning screen used to show the weather forecast for the day, for the current location. It still does that from time to time, but more often than not it just says "Good Morning" and nothing else, no weather info whatsoever. The Weather widget is working fine, and all settings are correct as far as I can tell.
Does this happen to you?
Is there anything I can do about it, or is it just another iOS 14 bug we have no choice but to live with?

Thank you.

I don't even get a good morning screen despite having everything required for it switched on 😭

This is how the screen looked this morning:

But the strange thing is that it does still display the weather from time to time, only very rarely. Approximately once every five days or so.
This makes me think that it's not due to an incorrect setting, but rather to an iOS 14 bug.

Yep, same thing happens on my iPad Pro and iPhone 12 on iOS 14. Add it to one of many many bugs that will probably never get fixed. Small stuff like this rarely gets addressed until the next major release of iOS.

Apples entire philosophy on iOS updates has changed and is warped thinking IMO. We aren’t getting more update because they are doing a better job to patch things. We are getting more because there are so many screw ups they are Attempting to fix. Kind of like chasing their tale. They fix one bug and it creates two more.

This morning it was fine:

What is it that makes it work on some days but not on others?
Your original post was on a weekend day; did you have an alarm set those day(s)?

If you have Do Not Disturb scheduled every day (for example, I have DND scheduled every day from 10 PM to 7:30 AM) but do not have an alarm set, you will just get the “Good Morning” message without the weather when the DND expires. Then, on days that an alarm is set, you will also get the weather included.

In my case, I have an alarm set Mon-Thurs. at 7 AM, and 6:30 AM on Fri and typically no alarms set on Sat or Sun. I will get the weather on the “Good Morning” screen Mon-Fri, but just the “Good Morning” message on weekends (unless I set an alarm then also).

I guess they assume that if you have an alarm set that you must have stuff to do and the forecast may be more relevant than on days you don’t have one set...

No, I have no alarm on any day of the week. Just a scheduled DND with the "dim lock screen" option, that's all.
And it doesn't just happen on weekends. There was no weather info yesterday, for instance.

Hmm, interesting. Definitely seems like a bug then.

I love Apple, but sometimes it seems like they take many of their small “convenience” features like this one that should be straightforward and easy to implement and make them more complex and unreliable than necessary.

This has been happening on my iPhone and iPad also. I have DND set everyday midnight to 8am but haven't seen the weather on the banner in awhile just "Good Morning"

Could it be something weird like the weather app not being allowed to access your location, or not being allowed to do background app refresh?

I thought about that, that maybe some permissions somehow got lost during an iOS update, but no, everything looks fine. Besides, it does work from time to time. If there were an issue with the permissions it wouldn't work at all.
