Just want to confirm that there is no selection to play HDR videos in Safari right now, at least on my new 16" M1 Pro MBP, although Chrome does allow it. Pro Motion is also not working in either Safari or Chrome, and 60 fps is smoother in Chrome.

Pro Motion seems to be working in other apps like Messages and Photos, though. The difference is very noticeable.

Hoping for a fix soon!

UPDATE: It turns out I had "Optimize Video Streaming While On Battery" under "Battery" in "System Preference" turned on. Turning it off bought back HDR in YouTube. And yes, I was running my MacBook on battery.
Glad it was something simple as I played 4K HDR YouTube videos on the 14"/16" demonstrators yesterday. :)

My M1 Pro 14 inch is definitely displaying 4K HDR content from YouTube.
Is it still working on your M1 MBP 14? My M1 MBP 16 cannot show HDR content in youtube in safari, and it's also very dim displaying Netflix Dolby Vision content. A bummer, as it feels like it's wasting this should-be great screen.

I checked my battery settings and optimizing video for battery is not checked.

Works fine if you change the tab to a Windows agent (either offered will work). Safari Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop menu, then go to Develop menu > User Agent.

It worked and then it has not been working anymore.

Are you guys still seeing HDR option in YouTube in Safari ? I have new MBP 16 M1 Max and 14 M1 Pro and it was working for me couple of weeks ago, but now I see it is not working on both machines. However HDR in Netflix works just fine in Safari (I have "Optimize Video Streaming While On Battery" under "Battery" in "System Preference" turned off).

Is it possible Apple or Google disabled it due to the crash issues some people experienced while watching HDR videos in Safari ? Could anybody check and let me know, please.

I had HDR displayed as an option I YouTube for about 1-2 days after getting my 14".

I very much suspect its something on the YouTube end, either that or it was disabled by 12.01. I can't remember how quick I updated to that.

This is a strange but useful trick!
I tried it in Safari-MOJAVE in 27”iMac (so no just for Monterrey, M1), and there‘s a clear upgrade in quality!! Much more detail & contrast and no stuttering at all. It’s weird, I changed to Chrome Windows Agent.
Thank you!!

How sad that we need to pretend to be using Chrome running on Windows in order to have the picture quality we deserve to have on a freaking Mac using Safari.
