If you read through the thread, you'd see that what to do with the original RAM was the OP point.

I still maintain that Apples price at $150 installed is pretty good. Crucial hasn't had any DDR3 2G sticks in-stock that I've seen. I went w. OWC because it was available.

Actually, I did read through the thread. If someone wants to sell their Mac in the future in order to by a newer revision which happens to use the same type of memory, then it would be a disadvantage to have bought memory from Apple for their previous Mac. For example, if someone originally bought 4GB from Crucial.com, then when it came time to sell his computer and get a new one, he could take out the Crucial 4GB sticks and put in the stock 2GB sticks and sell the computer, and then use his Crucial 4GB on his new computer. This is not a possibility if one buys memory through Apple, since Apple confiscates the stock memory.

Cause I was planning on upgrading i.e buying 2gb ram and sticking it in with my other 2gb...
Edit: I'm guessing by your reactions its 2GB (1 + 1 ) ?
Yea, it has only 2 slots and comes with 1Gb+1Gb. To upgrade to 4Gb you would have to buy 2x2Gb.

OK, Apple sells a 4Gb upgrade for the same (more or less) price as the cost of 4Gb kit from 3rd party. There is really no best solution here as one would end up spending the same amount of cash whichever method of upgrade is chosen.
You might argue with Apple option you get Apple warranty, but with 3rd party you get their lifetime warany. It's all the same really.

Everyone here has made good points, but I haven't seen anyone mention an obvious one.
I am going to buy from crucial at a later time, because I have enough money for the macbook now, without the upgraded ram. I either wait longer to get it upgraded through apple, or I get my macbook now and upgrade to 4gb soon. I'd rather have my macbook now and new ram later, instead of waiting a couple weeks for a macbook with 4gb in it already.

But that is just me.:)

Or, get the thing now, and take it back within two weeks (14 days) for the buyback at the apple store.

are you going to see a bigger difference with 4gb RAM in the 2.4 ghz then you would with the 2.0 ghz?
