Well, I guess supposedly the 5400 RPM is more silent, but like I said i don't hear much difference from the stock drive to my new hard drive. From what people say it draws a bit more power too, so that's something to think about.

I have a seagate momentus in my Macbook Pro early 2008 and a Seagate Momentus in my new Macbook. It never failed me on the 08 model, and so far so good on the 2011 one.

I'd love to get a SSD, but come on, with those prices it's just not worth it. I don't get how people think it's sufficient with 128GB drive in their computers, I certainly used all of my 500GB drive on my old computer.

Tbh, even the smallest difference is worth it. I think I'll order the Samsung SpinPoint M7 and if for some reason, I am not satisfied, I can always return it within 14 days.

I did a search on a Danish website and the top popular item ranked the Samsung as a 1st place and the Western Digital with a 4th place. Crossing my fingers it will stop the noises.

I have the loud hard drive issue on my 2011 mbp too.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the 2011 15" MBPs that the hard drive is as loud as it is, and constantly spinning. It's much louder than the fans at 2000 rpm, and well above ambient noise. Strangely, if you press down in the bottom right hand of the case, the noise gets quieter - suggests to me something is awry with either the hard drive or the enclosure design.
When you pay this much for a laptop, you expect it to work properly, without having to resort to buying yet more expensive components...

FYI my hard drive is the TOSHIBA MK7559GSXF
