Just set up my brand new MBP 13.
Immediately noticed how noisy the thing is. Checked temps and fan speed - all seem fine!
The noise seems to come from the right palm rest area.

Then realised it was the damn HDD!!! lol

Ive got so used to the complete silentness of my previous SSD in my old MBP!
Cant wait for my Samsung 830 to arrive (already updated my sig in anticipation! lol)

I like a completely silent system - don't know how you guys with HDDs in your MBP's cope with it! lol

It can be luck on the 2.5" drives. The stock one that shipped with my Macbook was loud compared to the one I replaced it with. In my experience, you need to have your ear very close to the case in order to hear the drive unless the heads are parking or its spinning up.

If you've never had an SSD, the noise from the HDD doesn't tend to bother you because it's what you're used to. You're used to an SSD, so switching back is a bit unpleasant. My HDD was never all that loud, but of course the SSD I replaced it with is much quieter.

Yeh you have it spot on.
Can't wait for my SSD to arrive - not used to the slowness of the HDD either!
