Very old car? Our car from 2017 has none of this, especially back then when it was never even offered. I would say this product will be phased out eventually. But unless you consider 2017 a very old car, lots of cars can make use of this.
I’ve got a 2017 KIA, and it’s got wired CarPlay. Little cubby under the dash where the USB ports are and a three foot black USB-C cable. Perfect place for the phone.

Vent attachment mounts are useful for lighter phones, but don’t support heavier ones adequately; they’re also flawed in their design because during winter months, heat comes out of those events, which can cause your phone to overheat and shut down during use.
Depends on the mount. There’s a jellyfish, I think it’s called, mount with metal hoop and tightens around the vent. Has no issues with my max phones for years. Doesn’t move at all

For 45$ it would have been decent but that’s not a charging one. Just a holder.

twice that price you get the charge one and the stuff you usually don’t need.

if the 45$ one came with a usb c port I’d consider it but also those vent holders don’t look like they will do the job correctly

Depends on the trims offered in your country. I know that the 2023 Outback base Convenience trim in Canada does not have wireless CarPlay nor the wirless charging pad.
I have a 23 Outback with the wireless charging tray. What a stupid design. I think they put it in, just to say they had wireless charging. It's too narrow, too short, and you can't see or touch the phone screen when it's far enough in to charge. I wound up making my own "Nomad" solution with an Apple MagSafe charger and a Spigen MagSafe holder that attaches to the vent. It's better than trying to use the Subaru wireless tray...but the locations of the vent and the steering wheel still make it hard to see the phone screen.

That’s a good design then. It doesn’t help with the heat in the winter but maybe you live in a warm climate where you require air-conditioning or moderate air year round.
