Non-4K Monitor?

Am I going to lose the "retina" quality if I go with an external that isn't 4K?

Any recommendations for a monitor that is 4K and one that is non-4K?

Want it for application space not so much "entertainment" space.

Depends on the size. At 27" then definitely yes. I have a dell 4k 27" monitor that works great with my 2015 MBA.
