Non Activated iPhone?

Well, I'm about to buy a 3G off eBay? But what if the phone is still sealed in the box? that means it hasn't been activated. Now I'm currently on ATT so can I just pop my sim in and be good? or does it have to be unlocked/jailbroken? what's the deal.

The 3G hasn't been software unlocked, yet, so you'll either need to buy one from a country in which they are sold software unlocked or use a hardware unlock solution.

Short Version: No, you can't just put your normal AT&T SIM in.

Yep. At least until the Dev Team gets the software unlock out, which is supposedly New Year's, so that's not too long.
