I had a non email apple ID from years ago. I recently purchased an iphone and tried to use iCloud. It prompted me to verify email address by inputting code sent to email. after entering code i get error stating email unavailable.
Now I can not access purchases from old non email ID. I enter non email ID in appleid.apple.com and it says does not exist. I see no way around this. I also signed up for apple music and not sure how I can cancel. any help is greatly appreciated.

You should contact Apple.
You could try "resetting" the Apple ID via https://appleid.apple.com

A non-email Apple ID is probably VERY old, i.e. from the "iTools"-days? (I had one too)

I think Apple cannot "cope" with these very old logins, and must be a real email adres nowadays.

I just went through this with my only AppleID account. Created about 10 years ago, with the AppleID account name an old email address, which has been dead for at least 5 years. I had a similar issue to the OP, the account needed to be reset. You have to do that through the Apple web site, maybe iforgot.apple.com is a good place to start, or you may need to call Apple support to fix. I got my account reset by supplying a different working email address to the account name. I was told that was the only choice. My account - and all purchases, etc, even the AppleID password stayed the same.
I did not want to replaced that AppleID account name, but now I'm happy.
I created a new mail account just for this purpose, which I don't plan to use for any other purpose. Works for me!

Ah, see, that's me as well. I have an old non-email Apple ID account. It still works everywhere though: AppStore, iTunes Store, Apple Discussion forum, even on Apple's own support pages I can log in. But as soon as I try to manage my Apple ID it tells me it's not a valid ID. Then I do the verifying thing, put in the code they sent me and then it tells me the email address is not available. It's maddening. I thought I would email Apple Support about it but I've yet to find an email address on their site... Is it me or is the Apple Support site like a maze you can't get out of?

not guaranteed to work but worth a try - have either of you tried sticking "@icloud.com" on the end of your apple id?

given that xyz@mac.com => xyz@mac.com or xyz@me.com => xyz@mac.com, xyz@me.com or xyz@icloud.com could your older apple id have gotten the same treatment? i'm assuming the email address it is trying to set up is yourappleid@icloud.com and that would not be available if it already existed (as your own apple id!)
