This wdsmartware thing has been burning on my macbook over the past couple weeks and I've been wondering why. I have used the wdsmartware external hard drive but there is no application for it or anything like that. Below is a picture, I use the last 2008 unibody macbook 2ghz and 4gb of ram

Obviously that program isn't non-existant. Western Digital has an assortment of utilities on their site to update it and/or remove it.

I have searched throughout my entire computer looking for anything that may be coming from it. I've used cleanapp, alfred, I can find nothing.

Did you use the utilities from Western Digital's site?
Edit: also use Activity Monitor to inspect the WDSmartware process. It will show you where the files are.
