I'm about to throw in the towel. All I am trying to do is run local network accounts for three users. I have a new mac mini and the most recent iMacs. Everyone is updated with the latest patched everything. And ti just doesn't work- constant hangs, crashes, one of my case mangers just lost an entire document she had been working on for four hours. I have tried everything- reinstall clean, all wired networking- just keep getting problems.

I am at the end of my rope here. I am tempted to switch over to a linux server to use was file server and just stop using Apple servers all together. I would really appreciate some opinions on the following:

1. Is the new 10.10.4 beta solving these kinds of issues for people?

2. Does anyone have any idea if there is something on my end that is causing the problems, or is this just the current version of apple server and Yosemite?

3. Is ti wise to go back to a prior, more stable version of Mac OS X on my mac mini server if all I care about is local network accounts running smoothly?

Thank you for any and all input.

No one has had this problem?
Seen this when the clients connect over SMB which is the default now in Yosemite. Make the clients connect over AFP instead. Apple made SMB the default in Yosemite, but its awful.

OK so how exactly to I limit connecting to AFP? I tried to do that, but I am certain I messed something up...

On the client...Finder, Go > Connect to Server.
In the box - afp://IP address of server
