Do you think apple will update the non touch bar 13 inch model or will they just leave it around like the MacBook Air for years to keep the low price point? even the late 2012 13 inch model was in the store for a long time with no update.

I hope they will. There are currently no 8th gen 15W chips with Iris Pro graphics as Apple uses in the nTB model. I don't know if Intel intends to release such chips, but Apple might know something about upcoming 15W chips that we don't. I don't know if Apple needs the Iris Pro for UI scaling, otherwise the lower spec 15W chips would seem to be fine. If they don't intend to update it, it would make sense to cut the price a bit. As it is right now, they're fine entry point MBPs but not with a good price.

Maybe. Or maybe it will linger for a few years without updates, like the Air is doing and the last non-retina Macbook Pro did. Who can tell with Apple?

With neither an update nor a price drop it seems a pretty unattractive choice though.

My guess is, the 2017 MBP nTB model will be the last of the budget pro's. From 2018 forward, if you want a "pro" notebook computer from Apple you'll have to buy any of the newer touch bar models. Replacing the 2017 MBP will be the new MacBook Air, and it's going to be the budget MacBook for the masses. It will be like Apple's iPads. If you want a pro iPad, with a powerful CPU and True Tone and big hard drive, you buy the 10.5 or the 12.9. If you want a more affordable iPad minus the latest CPU and True Tone and massive hard drive, you buy the 9.7 iPad. I also predict the new Air will look just like the current 12" MacBook but with a 13" screen and possibly two ports instead of one. Hopefully we'll know more on the 12th.
