So you don'y have any pirated media on your computer? Not a show or music video or a song or a movie? That's fairly hard to believe.

I do, but certainly no where close to 70% of my collection.

Maybe 1-2%? And certainly nothing more recent than maybe 5 years ago.

I have zero pirated content on my computer. I know many, many people who say the same thing. Pay the people for their work. They deserve it (well most of them do anyways). You do not want people taking your hard work without some renumeration, neither do most people. ( unless you are intentionally giving it away );)

...and in keeping with the general theme. Has anyone seen my AOL 3.0 CD? I hear they have jpeg support within email now.

Nope. No pirated anything. I won't deny I used to pirate, but as of last year I decided to go legit and have never looked back. All my software, all my music and all of my non existent movies (I don't have any) are legit. Being legit has gotten rid of a lot of crap I didnt actually want/need.

A violation of the law is a violation of the law. Doesn't matter if you steal 1 candy bar, or you steal 10. Same difference. I am not saying what I do is right, but you are trying to justify that you don't do it "as much" making it as if you are less wrong than me.

Furthermore, I was talking about 70% of just music. I only have about 650 songs. I do however, have hundreds of TV shows and tons of Music Videos that I buy from iTunes. So out of my entire media library, maybe 20% (only music) is off limwire.

Maybe try not ripping off artists? It's good for the soul.

That was supposed to be comical. Please don't act like you don't illegally download anything. Does that make it right for me because other people do it? No, but you all need to stop coming on here bashing other people acting like you don't download anything that you're not supposed to.

Then perhaps you shouldn't comment on a public forum how sad it is that your "sweet, sweet limewire is shutting down.;)

This may well be the worst day of my life. :'(

I always feared this day would come. Yes, I download a lot of songs off iTunes, but I'm not going to lie I download about 70% of my music through limewire. Thoughts or advice to get me though these trying times? :'(

So where is the problem? Just because somebody goes after a little company that distributes one of the few commercial GNUtella clients (GNU as in GNU's Not Unix, as in OPEN SOURCE), that doesn't mean that the Gnutella network itself is going away. Just download another client, and this time make sure that it is real Open Source software.

And even if the entire GNUtella network disappears: There are still BitTorrents floating around the Internet, you know. Download Transmission. Visit The Piratebay (which is out of US jurisdiction).

If it's only music you're after, you can also install one of the many utilities that extract the songs from Internet radio streams.

Losing LimeWire is not the end of the world. (Unless you own a share of the company.)

Fair enough, yet the last time I stole a candy bar was like 2002 or so and I have changed my ways. You however, continue to steal nearly every Almond Joy and Butterfinger you see.

I know publishing companies aren't prosecuting now like they were circa 2000, but the way that most users get prosecuted are those that use file sharing networks. Most of the news stories you read about child porn busts seem to occur by the police tracking them down through file sharing.

I'm just saying that IF you are going to steal, there are more secure ways of doing it than through file-sharing networks.

Although I am pretty upset, the title and original post were meant to be more on the comical side.

So, in other words, you justify it with "everybody else does it!"

So in other words, you can't read. I've posted multiple times justifying your statement. I'll re-quote them for you:

"I am not saying what I do is right, but you are trying to justify that you don't do it "as much" making it as if you are less wrong than me..."
"Does that make it right for me because other people do it? No, but..."

I wish I knew what the big deal with torrenting is. It seems like so much more work than limewire. I just download single songs, not whole albums hence my <700 song library. Aren't torrents for whole albums mainly?

The problem is that you're trying to use it as a retort. There are plenty of people (myself included), who don't pirate. Other people's guilt is irrelevant to your own.

I'm not using it as a retort. The point I'm trying to make when throwing the "you do it too" out there is not to say it makes it right, but don't chastise me for something you do too. It's called being a hypocrite. I know downloading copyrighted material is illegal, but don't get on my case when you (certain people of the forum) are doing the exact same thing.

The point of this thread was not to start drama and arguments (which it seems some people thrive off of and cannot live without) (and I also love when people play perfect behind their computer screen) but mainly talk about LW getting shut down.

I don't bother with Limewire, I switched to aMule years ago

Even if some of the people saying it are hypocrites, it doesn't make them wrong.

Second, you're on a message board dedicated to a company with the most successful digital entertainment distribution business out there. Would it really surprise you if some users on this forum are completely legit?

Oh god, I haven't used limewire since highschool. That is funnier than the actual notice. ha. No wonder why the world still has viruses.

I use waffles.fm.... looks like a wiki account but turns into heaven once you have a membership. by invite only...... what to do, what to do. (google it)

Catch = you have to upload 20% of ur DLs. Easy tho. If you upload a sketchy CD or DVD you get banned and your invitee gets banned too. Keeps the world of downloads pretty safe. Also, every album has its cover... OR else!

I use transmission w/ waffles to download and all of my files are perfect.

Limewire shmimewire

waffles.fm for the win (google image it)

If only the album is available, you can choose which songs you want before you actually download it. Of course there are plenty of singles on the torrent sites as well.

Torrents and newsgroups replaced limewire style file sharing years ago. Not to be snobby (though I totally know this will sound snobby), but I'm surprised people still use(d) limewire.

Usenet has been around as long as the internet, maybe longer. Other so-called easier access systems come and go but Usenet just keeps rolling along.
