So... does the light always blinks/flashes/stays on while this thing is playing music? I want to use it in the bedroom but if there's no way of turning "the light" off im out... or i'll be forced to put a coaster on it (like i do with my Yamaha speakers) ;)

Only thing lit up when playing music on Homepod is the + and - for volume control and those aren't that bright.

^ on a black Homepod, yes. But how does it look on a white mini? I guess the whole area is lit up a little, no?

I have a white one and a black one and I noticed on the black mini the light pulses slightly differently than the white mini. It fluctuates between a small light and a bigger light. It’s a little weird.

I just gave it a try and in complete darkness the light gets really really low.

After the 14.2 update, I’m pretty sure the white light (and green when on a call) stopped pulsing all together. They are just solid now, a lot less distracting

Unlike the HomePod, the HomePod mini always displays some kind of gentle white pulsation when actively playing media. But it clearly has an ambient light sensor – it darkens dramatically when the room is dark.

I've written more about its display here.

It actually doesn’t pulsate anymore (since 14.2). It’s a solid white or green now.

I stand corrected, and that’s the one word that felt like overstepping when I typed it; I’d have used “illumination” if it had occurred to me. I’ve only used mine with 14.2, and I’m not certain I’ve ever seen it pulse except during setup and stuff.

I thought I was going crazy because when I first got the HomePod mini, it was pulsing white when playing music. Then it just stopped all of a sudden but it definitely coincided with me updating to 14.2.
