I’m trying to learn the iOS ways. Android is deeply imbedded in me still. Is it better to clear apps or leave them all open in the background and just use them that way. I turned app refresh off while on lte but on when on WiFi. I’m SO used to my last few Samsung phones with amoled screens that the first thing on my mind was to get all black backgrounds and use night mode. The lcd screen doesn’t benefit from black backgrounds at all if I understand it correctly.

Any other longtime android people with some tips that might not be obvious? I’m glad I have an Apple Watch because the no led notification light would drive me insane without my watch notifying me.

I suggest keeping apps you use regularly open in the background. No need to close them. iOS does an excellent job of app and memory management. For apps you know you will only use once daily, use it and close it.

Thanks. I’m kinda ocd about it. Even on android I know it’s best to use them from memory, but old habits die hard.

Yeah...I don't usually worry about closing apps unless they are big ones. I set Background App Refresh and Cellular Data on an app by app basis. If you want push notifications from an app, or you want the widgets to be up to date, you need to allow the background refresh over cellular. I turn it off for other apps.

You will be fine, you don't have to worry about closing apps.
The iOS manages memory and usage fine on its own without the end user to have to do it manually.

Why over cellular? Won’t things update on WiFi at night while I charge like my s8+ did?

Yes... If you disable cellular for an app it will update over WiFi as long as you still allow background refresh. But I like to have some apps refresh over Cellular so they stay up to date when I’m not on WiFi.
