Ok, so I'm all set up tomorrow to walk into Wal-Mart and purchase my 2nd iPhone. My first was an iPhone 5 that I preordered from Verizon upgrading from a slider phone. Now this will be the first time selling an iPhone and switching to another. I'm selling the iPhone 5, as it's now off of contract.

This is the process as I understand it, and please clarify or elaborate if I'm missing anything.

    • Call Wal-Mart to ensure they still have the iPhone in stock that I want (I checked today).
    • Turn off iCloud/Find My iPhone on the device
    • Reset all settings and data
    • Remove SIM card
    • Accepts buyer's money.
    • Take money to Wal-Mart
    • Purchase iPhone 6
    • Insert SIM card into iPhone 6
    • Set up new phone at Wal-Mart w/clerk or at home???
    • ???
    Thanks

Back up iPhone 5 to both iTunes and iCloud.

Unless you plan on bringing your computer to Walmart, I would do it at home so you can restore from the iTunes backup. iCloud doesn't do a full backup like iTunes.

My 27" iMac from 2009 would be a bit cumbersome. :D

I guess I meant for activation? Is that the right word? Associating the phone with my account and disassociating the old phone. Or does the SIM do all of that?

    SIM swap should do that.

What doesn't iCloud get you? That's what I've always used since it was available. I never plug it into a computer any more. Well except to downgrade from 8.0.1 to 8.0 :)

This is redundant. If you do "Erase All Content and Settings" it automatically turns off Find My iPhone/Activation Lock in the process.
