    Hi Guys,

I'm new to iPhone jailbreaking (I did jaibreak my iTouch over a year ago using ZiPhone).

A couple of questions - I activated it yesterday when I recieved it, so if I use WinPwn (using Vista) to jailbreak it, will it unlock (so I can use any simcard) and also will I get away with it so 02 won't find out?

Once jailbroken, can I still use iTunes as usual for syncing music etc?

    Thanks for the help guys

There is lots of stuff about this on here, have you tried the search function?

If you're running 2.2.1 currently then you will not be able to unlock it to use it with any sim card since the baseband will be 2.30. Only baseband 2.28 is unlockable using yellowsn0w. It's not possible to downgrade the baseband, if that's what you're wondering right now.

It'll still sync fine with iTunes, no problem there.

I have read a few threads and some do state the problems with firmware issues etc and wanted to be sure!

I don't really require it to be unlocked as I'm using my 02 sim just wanted to know for future reference!

What about the jailbreak? I should be able to use winpwn and will be fine with out the operator finding out?

If yes then I'll be jailbreaking in a moment ;)

I used Pawnage and it was a snap. Not sure if you have a Mac, but it was a breeze with my Mac laptop.

Use QuickPwn it's a breeze. Just make sure you do the button combos as it says.

I have no experience with jailbreaking on windows.

However regarding your worry that O2 might find out - it really depends on what you do I suppose...

If you use apps such as PDAnet or iPhone modem or Netshare to tether your computer to your phone to share the phones internet connection they might notice in have something to say about it since it's against the terms of service which you have agreed to.

similarly, if you run voipover3g to use skype when you're on 3G they might find out and have a problem with it.

All this is purely speculative of course, they haven't contacted me regarding anything like this and I do both of the above. :D

Well I used the FW already installed on the phone. Just plugged it in and went. Also make sure you have the latest stable version of QuickPwn if that's what you're going to use.

I think if you use a restore firmware it might erase the contents and settings of your phone. Like I said I just downloaded QP, plugged my phone in when prompted, and followed the step by step tutorial and within a few minutes my phone was jailbroken and all my stuff was kept intact.

I recommend only getting Cydia and not Installer but that's up to you.

    2G or 3G?
I am assuming it's a 2G because you mentioned Ziphone, which works up to 1.1.4, an the iPhone 3G started off with 2.0.
If it is a 2G, then the firmware file you downloaded is incorrect.
The "iPhone1,2" means 3G, while "iPhone1,1" is for the 2G.

this is the guide i used to jailbreak my iPhone 2G to 2.2.1.

i upgraded via iTunes and then built another ipsw from the downloaded firmware they provide.

if you follow the steps. to the T (including creating a folder on the desktop) - you shouldn't run into any errors.

Nope. You *have* to have the firmware that's on the iPhone/iPod on the computer you're Jailbreaking with. If you only have the firmware on the device, and not you're computer, you will fail.

I'm the last person that needs to read his post. Maybe you should read it, then you would realize that he is trying to jailbreak an iPhone, he only noted that he jailbroke an iPod touch at one period of time.
Next time, before you try to correct somebody, make sure you yourself are right, in this case, you are not. Geez:rolleyes:
