I have seen some people have the hard drive icon display capacity and free space under the name. How do I do that? Is there a setting is OSX I haven't found yet?

Under Finder>View>Show View Options>Show info.
I only have a Show Item Info in there. When I check that it shows the number of items in a folder but not the capacity of my drive.

That's odd, it should show total size followed by free space.

Are you sure it's not an alias you have on your desktop?

It should show the drive capacity... at least, it does for me. Make sure no Finder window is open when you do "Show View Options"
