Noob question about transferring files

Ok, i searched but i'm still confused.

I want to transfer music from my brother's vista laptop onto my macbook. Both computers are on a wireless network. I go to Go > Connect to Server and then click "Browse". The laptop shows up, good times. I click on it and it says "Connection Failed", bad times.

Now, i'm glad that the files on a computer aren't automatically available for everyone within wireless network range, but i don't know how to override the permissions. I click "Connect As.." to try his login details for the laptop but it just connects as if i was refreshing the page.

I assume i'm just being dumb and missing something obvious, so any help is greatly appreciated!
 
He has a firewall up I assume. It probably is misconfigured. It might just be easier to have sharing on your mac running (make sure smb/Windows sharing is running) and connect from the PC.
