Thanks for all the great replys, it seems i am going with the PS3. I am installing a 4MB internet connection just for downloads (no download limit), i am going to use it for my torrents, AppleTV and PS3.

PS3 does everything AppleTV does and then some. You don't need both a PS3 and an Apple TV.

Movies rentals? tv shows? podcasts?

I also have a large libary with apple so i kinda need to have one.

Nullriver's MediaLink will stream any podcasts from iTunes straight to PS3 but PS3 currently doesn't do movie rentals or TV shows. However, it will stream anything which isn't in Apple's silly DRMd formats.

There is a TV tuner coming for PS3 too. It turns the PS3 into a personal video recorder like Tivo.

The PS3 is still lacking in the Audio department. Currently the Samsung units are the best out there, supporting all the Audio Codecs, but all the standalone players have one issue or another with them. If you want to spend the money, Denon has one that I believe supports pretty much all the specs.

I believe the PS3 now supports all codecs except for DTS-HD 7.1, which is downmixed to 5.1.

PS3 no question. Its excellently priced and loaded with a ton more features than any other standalone. As everyone has mentioned the integrated ethernet and wifi make it future proof and easily updated.

Another big item for me that nobody has mentioned yet is performance. It may seem like a small thing, but the PS3 boots up insanely faster than any other standalone on the market.

With regard to audio, PS3 does just fine. It supports everything but DTS HD 7.1 right now. More importantly though, I have a very large collection of BD and have yet to see a single movie with a DTS HD track anyway. Most all receivers out there don't yet support any of the HD codecs yet. They literally just started making it to market.... and at fairly high costs no less.
