I have a Swiss Gear backpack for my MBP. Similar to the one you listed. It is KINDA big... but you got to take into account for all the pockets it has. Sometimes I forget where I put things because of it. I use to carry my MBP, Binder, 2 Textbooks, My Taekwondo Uniform, Change of Clothes, my iPhone, pencils, pens, keys, and everything else and it held up GREAT. It was a heavy backpack for me indeed because of all the stuff. This recent semester that just ended.... I didn't use my Swiss Gear backpack since my classes didnt need me to have my laptop with me... But this coming fall.... Looks like I'll be using it very much. Its been over a year since I've had it and it's like new :D
Good Luck on whatever you choose.

Folks, I just bought a 17". I bought an incase sleeve, but looking for a backpack. Do you know if the sleeve & laptop will both fit in the north face surge?

Yup. I have the same incase 17" sleeve, and a north face surge for my brand new 17". And yeah they both fit. It's a bit of a squeeze but it definitely fits and the compartment closes completely.

Thanks much. Where did get it from? Did u use the link in the first post?

I'm just looking for a bit more feedback on MBPs and this backpack. I recently got the Surge as a gift and I'm really liking it. The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is if my 15" MBP is being squeezed too much in the laptop compartment. It has those two stiff things that seem to push on the lid of my MacBook pro when the other compartment is filled with textbooks and notebooks. I know it seems like they are there to really separate the compartments and protect the laptop, but i'm not sure if it's really doing that.

How have the experiences with this bag been? Do those two "rods" protect the MBP from heavy stuff in the adjacent compartment? Do you get marks on the screen from your keyboard when using that compartment...that'd be a sign the laptop is being squeezed together.

I can attest to the Timbuk2 Messenger Bags... I have the large one, and you can fit just about anything in it. On top of that, they're incredibly comfortable.

This thread and others have made me really want a Timbuk2 for my new Macbook Pro. I've been a little scared away because of the price. However, I just found a Timbuk2 Messenger Commuter bag for $65 on Amazon. For some reason there was a special on the ones that were army green with a orange stripe in the middle. The army green would have been my preference and I'll gladly have an orange stripe for a 50% discount! Anyways, it was a great deal and I am looking forward to getting it in.

I no longer carry a 17" laptop but when I was it was very difficult to find a backpack that could carry it comfortably and safely. Too many left the corners of the laptop exposed to just fabric, even though the main part of the inner sleeve covered most of the rest of the device. So when you'd go to set it down, it could tip over and you'd smack a corner of the laptop inside the bag. This was the case with a Booq I had, as well as an Ogio.

I've been carrying my MBP 15" in a Briggs and Riley executive-style backpack (can also be carried messenger-style) for 3 years now and circled the globe literally 4 times with it. I noted that B&R now makes a 17" version that is TSA checkpoint friendly as well. They also offer a no hassles lifetime warranty with all their products. Definitely worth it for my money.

Here's the 17: http://www.briggs-riley.com/categor...d=17-inch-Executive-Clamshell-Backpack_KPC405

Does anyone have the Northface Heckler? I was wondering if a 13inch Macbook Pro would fit in it comfortably?
