Hi i have a problem some times with opening some downloads on my MacBook Pro.. I get the popup box with not able to open because it has not been download from the App store... but I can open some downloads without getting it from the App store. Any help would be much appreciated.

Right-click and choose Open, rather than double-clicking.

As for why this happens, there are actually three types of apps. There are the ones from the App Store, then there are "signed" and "unsigned". Signed apps are where the developer has paid Apple for a signature, and these will pop up the warning and let you continue. Unsigned apps are blocked unless you go through the right-click method.

I just wanted to write the same.

You can also change the "Gatekeeper" options in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General.

But keep in mind there is a reason for this security option to prevent malware from running by itself for example and you have to do the right click only on first launch.

Thank you for your reply, I thought about `gatekeeper and I did look there at one time but thought better of it. I keep it on the Apple store only... that's probably why I don't have a lot of problems with my Mac like some. It was GIMP I was trying to open.
