This is my first MBP. Aside from Touchbar, there's no much that's different. ☹ I still have a few days left within the 30 day purchase period and I'm wondering if there's any way to create a MBP that's faster? I decided to go with 1TB because I don't store a lot and if I decide to, I have external storage drives.
I thought maximizing memory would make it faster, but apparently not?
Any insight?

General browsing, schoolwork and Prime Video.
When browsing Reddit, I get a message that says "this website is using a significant amount of memory" or something or that sort.
Depending on how well my academics progress, I might need to run 3D design software, so that was my main reason for laptop upgrade.

This computer is used by developers, photo editors, and video creators. I can't believe it doesn't meet the needs of a website, even a thread-heavy one like Reddit.
I think don't worry about messages and judge it on actual responsiveness and performance.
Good luck.

They are as fast as computers go, generally. Not that general browsing or schoolwork needs a fast computer to start with. If you are experiencing issues they are more likely to do with your software config, internet connectivity or other external factors.

Probably means reddit is using far more memory than a normal website would, rather than it's using too much memory for your laptop to cope with. Have a look in activity monitor when using the website, and see how much memory is being used. I search reddit on a 13 inch with 16GB of memory and I've never had any ram issues!

That's why I thought I'd max it out to 64GB, but apparently ineffective.
Not entirely sure what I'm looking for in Activity Monitor but under memory, it says that Reddit uses 1.27GB after scrolling down a few pages on the website.

You loaded up to 64GB to browse websites?
I'm using an atom processor with 2GB of memory and it's working on reddit just fine. I think you're looking for a problem that doesn't exist!

You'd have managed with the base model MacBook Air...

Not entirely. Currently, yes. I loaded it up for my future projects/photography. What's disappointing is that it doesn't meet expectations when doing something simple such as browsing.

Apple just doesn't deliver machines that can make people happy any longer. These guys need to get their act together and deliver machines that can work with simple websites and portals such as Reddit. The MacBook Pro is clearly deficient for this task, as you have become acutely aware of.

If possible, return this MBP and try out a Mac Pro in the store and see if the power of Mac Pro is what it takes to resolve your issues with browsing websites. If even a Mac Pro does not help in this, and you are unhappy with the speed of a Mac Pro, see if a Windows machine works better for your demanding requirements. Apple has stopped catering to professionals who demand the absolute best.

What browser (Safari,Chrome, Firefox) are you using? Does the web page load and run without any issues other than the message?

Could it be the network connection? Or some other app running in the background? 64GB is an insane amount for just browsing. Can you take a screenshot of activity monitor?

Safari. Website lags a little.

In all earnestness, sometimes sites do tend to take a lot of memory, and coupled with the number of tabs open and background software open alongside Safari could mean a pressure on memory that is reflecting on website performance. That computer that you have is far more powerful for the requirements you have stated. You need to reflect on how you are using your computer.

A visit to the Apple Store would probably provide for a quicker resolution as the folks will be able to realise and recognise inadvertent bottlenecks to system performance.

If it's lagging it has nothing to do with your hardware. Perhaps your network connection is being slow or reddit isn't playing nice with Safari. Try Firefox. I'm not home at the moment but I'd be pretty confident that my Mac mini with half the memory and significantly lower spec hardware wouldn't have any issues with reddit. As many have posted it's a website. You can see websites on Chromebook level hardware without any problems.

You seriously think Safari is using all of his 64 GB of RAM? We're not taking about Chrome with 50 tabs open here ??

I think it might be someone 'showing off' that he bought something massively overspecced just to browse websites ??‍♂️

Really? A Mac for 3D Design i mean CAD? Im using Solidworks in my windows 16 GB machine and it works fine. But CAD sucks on Mac. If you really need the power of 64GB RAM this laptop will be outdated. Just get an iPad Pro for browsing.

There is no way Safari is using that humongous amount of memory. We do not have a complete dataset to even begin to help him. It is highly possible he has some shady websites and portals open that might be using his CPU and memory for bitcoin mining using javascript. We have zero information provided by him to help him at all.
