I was hoping there would be a thread—or an article from the editors 😉—about John Gruber commenting on Mark Gurman's CEO succession reporting. Mark Gurman was wrong and rejected the Financial Times's report.

I enjoyed John Gruber's article: https://daringfireball.net/2026/04/delicious_claim_chowder_regarding_the_cook-ternus_ceo_transition

Edit: let me add a quote form the post: "A humble correction and sincere apology to the Financial Times — and Tim Bradshaw personally — are surely forthcoming in this weekend’s edition of Power On." 💀

In my childhood, that piece would be called a burrrrrnn…

But I wouldn't expect a similar call out from here, or any other member of the Apple Rumors Industrial Complex, which owe their existence to plying the trade of Apple rumors, whether they turn out to be true, or false, as the case may be.

They're the lifeblood of such sites, sometimes taken too easily as fact (remember the warnings about the DRMed USB-C cables Apple was going to inflict upon the world, which fooled even EU officials? Or another site declaring the death of the Mini?), used as fuel for the haters and defenders to tussle over in the comments, while turning the page view counters.

I'm not a regular reader, but Gruber himself probably gets it wrong a lot of the time, though as a individual blogger, he has no editors to answer to other than himself, and can issue mea culpas to soothe his conscience and try to preserve his credibility with no hurdles.
