I have a white iphone and mine has light leaking out the back cover. Just little squares around the sides though, not that big streak in the middle like one of the photos.

Not too concerned about it at this stage since most people seem to have it and I hardly use my phone in the dark anyways. Plus the last time I exchanged my phone for a different problem, I freaked out for days I would get a even worse one, so not putting myself through that again. :p

I called my local apple store and a few of the employees checked their white iPhones and none of them were doing it "they claim".

You would think all white iPhone 3Gs would be doing the same thing. Very odd, hopefully Apple can address it and at least let the public know that it can be expected and nothing "harmful" should be considered of it.

Cool thing is I don't have to turn my lights on in the house. Not only is the front bright, but so is the back :)

Jeebus Crust!!!!!

honestly- I'm a man of no great means by no means. i work in a paint & body shop and i bought my wife and i both 8g black iPhones. they work, and that's' all that needs to be said on that.

you're worried about light coming from inside the plastic housing around the phone that doesn't effect the functionality of it. that to me just seems absurd.

we repair vehicle every day (this is in reference to the previous poster) and guess what? it's a wrecked car that has been fixed to "above and beyond" the original manufacturers specs. but alas, we still have customers come in and gauge the gaps between fenders and hoods, quarter panels and deck lids, etc.

it's ridiculous.

two weeks ago, after a particularly aggravating day, i told a customer to go to the car lot they purchased their vehicle from and pick the gaps that they wanted and i would match them. they returned the next day and apologized to me. all things, let me repeat it- "ALL THINGS" are assembled by people. people have flaws as does their work. if it was a perfect world- we wouldn't need spell-check.

if the phone works as was designed to work then get a ****ing life and live with the little "light leaks" that come from it. believe me, their a far worse horror stories coming out of these forums about people's iPhones then light showing through the back!

I understand your point and view, and wasn't try to get anybody upset. I was simply sharing a picture of my phone and some facts with the iPhone community that has been shared with me.

I don't think there is a problem with people sharing information among each other, do you?

To use your reference... If someone finds something odd with a new car, do you suggest they report it (to have it answered) or just forget about it and never know if it could be something potentially bigger then one might just think it is?

No complaints, just simple discovery that seemed interesting to share. Sorry again if you feel it's something that causes somebody to need a life :)

if i come off as hostile, i apologize.

i had another customer come in with an 06' Infinity G35S. they wanted to ensure that all the work would be done to their standards and ONLY infinity parts be used in the repair.

"that's not a problem sir" i replied.

"this is a 50,000 dollar car" they said.

"it's actually a 24,000 dollar car sir"

"the hell you say! this is an infinity!"

"it's actually a nissan sir, with a different set of bumpers and steering wheel but when i call the nissan dealership, they'll know what parts to send me"

in my business as well as the "boutique, creme de la creme" cell phone business, it all comes down to - "it's just a phone"

Now that made me laugh. Thank you.

lol, just like Lexus & Toyota:)

infinity = Nissan

lexus = toyota

acura= honda

those are common but,

aston martin = ford (no sh|t)

there's plenty more merchandize people over pay for because of a logo or name brand.

i know it's apple but it's still the cheapest processor and memory they could shove in a case to make a mass produced piece of machinery.

Hello all. I just noticed a night or two ago that my black 16GB 3G has light leak issues also, both from the front around the glass and through the black. I had never noticed the leak from the front before, so that kind of annoyed me, but I can only see it when it's dark, so I'm not too worried about it. As for the light showing through the back, I only noticed it once my eyes had adjusted to my room being pitch black. I would never notice it 98% of the time I use it, so it's not a big deal either.

My white MacBook had the same kind of light leak through the lid. I don't think Apple really cares about the hardware details anymore. Every iBook I've ever seen has been top-notch as far as cosmetic hardware appearance and quality. First generation iPhones are also amazingly beautiful. Standards are plummeting.

Got a build week 32 iPhone yesterday and it has none of these light problems, so there should be some perfect iPhones out there ;)
