I bought my brand new iMac from my local Apple store 2 days ago, and it doesn't have Lion installed. When I click on "about this iMac" from the Apple drop down menu, it says I am running OSX version 10.6.8. I just assumed it would have Lion installed on it and nobody gave me anything for a free download. I assume they should have, correct?

    Correct

Go to the mac app store ( phone AppleCare frost to confirm) and simply download and install Lion. You should not be charged.

My iMac (July) came with SL but I had a free upgrade to Lion, just downloaded it and that was it.

Your advice is incorrect. The only way to get lion for free is to go to http://apple.com/macosx/uptodate
    And follow the onscreen instructions

SinceJuly then, because that's exactly what applecare told me to do.....You do have to verify your machines serial number first though...Forgot to put that in
