This is the first time following product updates that I haven’t seen the forum full of posts about those new products.

Seems like there’s very little enthusiasm for them.

I don't think that's the reason. In the past we've seen announcements but there has still been a lot of enthusiasm. Barely anything this time around.

Yah, the price point hikes are really disturbing.

$1000 more for a base M5 Studio compared to my base M1 Studio is shocking for Apple's price strategies.

Leasing makes it more palatable which is what I did for 0% money factor.

As an M2 Ultra owner doing motion graphics daily, the muted response tracks with what I've been hearing from the Adobe/DaVinci crowd. The M5 Ultra is unquestionably faster on paper, but the config that would actually be an upgrade for a lot of us (the 256GB SKU) landed at a price that turns "exciting upgrade" into "quarterly business decision."

Add the 96 vs 128 base RAM change and you get a specific problem: the natural upgrade config isn't there. Base is a memory step-down, next tier is a $4k jump. Nobody hate-buys their way through that middle.

I just did some math with my M5 Studio Upgrade lease program.

Reselling my M1 Studio base for about what I paid for 4 years ago ($1400), my effective monthly drops from $50/month for 3 years into effectively $10/month with $735 buyout + tax at the end of 3 years.

Plus I get 3% back each month using the Apple Card for the monthly lease payment!

Seems like there’s very little enthusiasm for them.

A few reasons

1. Mostly a SOC update. Nothing groundbreaking.

2. No leaks and Apple did no marketing for this. Just surprise announcement in the late summer "here's are new chips in these two desktops"

3. Desktops are the lowest sales out of most of their hardware(Laptops, iphones, ipads, watches all bigger revenue makers. So less people interested in them even with the AI boom.

4. Odd timing for buying one. There is no high end M6 option and M7 is next year which is going to be real performer. While there is always a case of "something is better coming out next year" this is really a unique year where Apple is accelerating the timeline because of AI focused M7. So that means in 1 year or so there is going to be 2 generation bump so don't be upset when the M7 numbers come out if you buy M5. Basically the dilemma is what mentioned in the macrumors podcast from a few weeks ago.
