iPhone Duo Not really Amused with the Duo Name

Is anyone else less than thrilled with the iPhone Duo name? Don’t get me wrong, I’m eager to preorder on day one, but the name just doesn’t resonate with me. I completely understand why they didn’t name it the iPhone Ultra, as that would suggest it’s the top-tier iPhone to get. However, I’m more concerned about future iterations.

For instance, I couldn’t envision it being called the iPhone Duo Ultra or the iPhone Duo Pro Max. Those names are quite wordy. Why not simply call it the iPhone Fold? Both the Ultra and Pro Max work well with it. Why burden a device with such an unusual name?

Another thing that bothers me is that the Duo name doesn’t feel Apple-like. Apple has always had a sophisticated naming structure, and the Duo name comes across as a bit gimmicky. We understand it’s two devices in one, but you don’t need to explicitly state that.

I’m curious to know what you all think. Am I just overreacting?

Duo focuses on the fact it has two form factors, two screens, two batteries, two simultaneous camera views, and two apps interacting at once.

Fold places focus on the fact it can fold, which isn't benefit by itself.

Ultra is too associated with Samsung in the phone space. Yes they use it for chipsets and Apple Watch, but think of the search engine optimisation and marketing considerations. People who are not as engaged with tech will google things like "Ultra phone" if it was called that.

It is also not 'ultra'. The cameras, the battery life, the performance, it isn't ultra. It is just a different product. I think the name makes sense.

I also think it really fits the name.
Just think how many topics there would be where people complain it doesn't look and feel like an Ultra device 🙂

Yes, I think you are overreacting just a bit.
 
I care about what I can do with it, not what I call it.

I wouldn’t name my child Duo but I couldn’t care less if Apple names my phone that.
