So is there a big advantage going with the rMBP if you're only going to be using it at the 1440x800 resolution?

People really seem to be missing the point on this. If your computer used 2880x1800 resolution everything would be really small and unusable. But that doesn't mean the new display is useless.

I have two laptops sitting next to each other. One is a Dell XPS M1530 at 1440x900 and the other is my new Retina Macbook Pro scaled to 1440x900. The Retina display is far better because it's got so many more pixels and when I go back to my Dell it looks like crap.

The same thing happened with the iPad. When they came out with the Retina dispaly everything didnt' get smaller... everything got clearer.

Some people are complaining about apps being blurry but I'm running Google Canary and it's fine and for the apps that haven't been updated yet they will be so I'm fine with that.

That and when your in Retina mode,
updated apps can use the full 2880x1800 display,
its just the screen is scaled for 1440 wide to make it easier to read text.

Simple example if I have a 2880 wide image, preview will display it at the pixel level.

These Pro's might be big, but fuzzy they are not, the display is amazing in 1440 Retina mode.

I just received mine. I'm very picky when it comes to visual fidelity, and have good eyesight. I literally can not see any blur or fuzziness WHATSOEVER at any resolution 1440x900 to 1920x1200. I'm currently using 1680x1050, and it looks incredibly sharp and just fantastic.

I've had plenty experience running LCDs at below native resolution and hated every minute of it. It's just simply not a problem here.

But what are you looking at? Something non-retina?
How does the websites (with regular images) look like at these resolutions 1440 and 1920?

They look how I expected. That is to say, they look fine. Some things better than others. But that's not what I was getting at. Just wanted to address people's concerns over the scaling and potential blur/vaseline effect that could have.

That's because your not as OCD as most of those people complaining like little 5 year old's who can't get a toy at the store.

I agree. I think everyone's concerns were way overblown, but that's just me. I don't own a rMBP, but I played around at Best Buy and went to USA Today, ESPN, MacRumors and a few other sites and while of course it's noticeable, it's hardly the debilitating, experience-ruining event I got the impression it would be based on reading these forums.

Any chance we could see how websites look like on 1440 Retina without flying to America and going to an Apple store? :D I've already seen some screens here and there but just ordinary websites without much images. How would this website look like for example?

I'm at best buy and I just took this screenshot at 1920x1200. I have no idea how to use a mac so I didn't resize it or anything and I used cmd+shift+3 to take the screenshot. I just realized the cmd key is not where the ctrl key is on a pc keyboard...man that's going to take some getting used to...

Gracias gracias, I appreciate it. Yeah, looks not bad at all!
Will this website look less good on 1680 and 1440?

go to www.bbc.com or www.topgear.com I was just looking at those sides today in-store.

Look at the BBC logo image in the top left hand corner on the bbc.com page and the topgear image in the top left hand corner on tg.com I straight away noticed how those were blurry, going back to a not retina screen, it looked fine again. That all I had time to notice as I was not there long.
seriously? its a low res picture. It looks "blurry" because thats just how the picture is drawn. Its stretched out bigger and shows out like a sore thumb... its more noticeable, because everything else around it is so much crisper... it still is a very very VERY minor problem.

Screenshots won't help if your doing the Retina mode... your just getting a normal picture the same as if you weren't on a retina. You need to actually see it on the screen... you can do that if you have a really good camera to snap a picture with.

Things are much better on the higher resolution scaling options, btw. The low res images on sites and apps aren't blown up so large on screen.

I'm aware of that. The fact is that these type of images are not going to get updated just cause the retina is out, so if you on the retina you getting a worse experience surfing the web.

My sole point is that the web is full of these images, they will not get updated.
