Been trying to find out if it would be ok to purchase a samsung 830 and do a fresh install of mountain lion.

I've been looking around online to see if it greatly affects battery life, but I couldn't find a straight forward answer.

Anyone with any recommendation to this?

That SSD is pretty popular among forum members here and I have not seen posts complaining about battery life issues after installation.

Mac Observer ran some tests - many SSD's actually use more power than some HD's.

10-30 minutes more life with a HDD compared to SSD - at least for these two particular drives.

The problem with that test is they used a Vertex 4 for comparison, and that is about the most power hungry drive around.

If you look at these charts and compare the Samsung 830 power draw to the HDD in the Macobserver test, the 830 is actually using less power than the HDD.
